Description
Kemal Paşa dessert (also known as Kemalpaşa Tatlısı) is a traditional Turkish dessert that’s small, round, syrup-soaked, and sweet. It’s named after the town of Mustafakemalpaşa in Bursa, Turkey, where it was first made.
🍮 What It Is

Kemal Paşa dessert is made from special cheese, semolina, flour, and eggs. The dough is shaped into small balls, baked until golden, then soaked in warm sugar syrup. The result is a soft, juicy, and sweet dessert that’s slightly chewy inside and soaked with syrup outside.

You can buy it ready-made and dried in packets (sold as Kemalpaşa Tatlısı mix) — this is the most common version found in stores.

🧑‍🍳 How to Use (Prepare) Ready-Made Kemal Paşa Dessert

Ingredients:

  • 1 pack Kemal Paşa dessert balls (about 20–25 pieces)

  • 2½ cups (500 g) sugar

  • 4 cups (1 liter) water

  • Optional: few drops of lemon juice, shredded coconut, or ground pistachio for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the syrup:

    • In a large pot, add sugar and water.

    • Bring to a boil while stirring until the sugar dissolves.

    • Add a few drops of lemon juice (this prevents crystallization).

  2. Cook the dessert:

    • Once the syrup starts boiling, gently add the Kemal Paşa balls.

    • Lower the heat to medium and let them cook for about 15–20 minutes.

    • The balls will expand in size and soak up the syrup.

    • Stir occasionally to make sure they cook evenly and don’t stick.

  3. Rest and serve:

    • Once they are soft and fully soaked, remove from heat.

    • Let them cool a bit in the syrup so they absorb more sweetness.

    • Serve warm or cold.

  4. Optional toppings:

    • Sprinkle with grated coconut, crushed pistachios, or kaymak (Turkish clotted cream) for extra richness.

💡 Tips:

  • Don’t overcook, or they might break apart.

  • They taste better after resting for a few hours or overnight in the fridge.

  • If the syrup is too thick, add a little hot water to adjust.

🧠 Fun Fact:

Kemal Paşa dessert has been made for over a century, originally using local cheese from the Mustafakemalpaşa region. It’s often served during Ramadan, festivals, or as a quick homemade treat after meals.
